Daily and Weekly self-assessments

Self-Assessments

My observations were used in conjunction with daily self-assessments completed by students. I wanted to include self-assessments because it “promotes direct involvement in learning and the integration of cognitive abilities with motivation and attitude toward learning” (O’Malley & Pierce, 1996, p. 5).  At the end of each week students had to self-assess their learning and what gaps they had in their own understanding. I used these self-assessments along with observations to tailor my instruction to students’ needs.  The students’ self-assessments also helped me to understand how students are relating to the concepts in the game and what needs to be changed in future variations of the game.  Along with their weekly self-assessments they will be completing weekly checklists to help the students stay on task and on topic.
